Marriage Registration
Marriage Registration
Citizens of the Republic of Serbia who marry abroad are obliged to apply for entry in the marriage registry kept in the Republic of Serbia without delay.
The application is submitted to the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Zurich, if you live in the area for which the Consulate is competent (link). Upon receipt of the request, the diplomatic and consular mission forwards it to the competent registry office in the Republic of Serbia for entry of the marriage in the marriage registry.
Documentation required for marriage registration:
1. Marriage registration form (available at the Consulate);
2. Original extract from the marriage registry on an international form (not older than six months) obtained from the registry office in Switzerland, where the marriage was contracted (Zivilstandsamt).
The certificate must be in the form prescribed by the Convention on the Issuance of Certificates from Civil Registers in Multiple Languages, signed in Vienna on 08.09.1976.
3. Translation of the certificate from the civil register of marriage by an authorized court interpreter into Serbian;
4. Valid passport of both spouses (even if the other is a foreigner).
Note:
A request for a new passport for the purpose of changing the personal name after marriage cannot be submitted until the marriage has been registered, entered and the surname has been changed in the civil register of marriage.
